This Friday, October 7, is World Smile Day. This little-known holiday encourages people to do one act of kindness that will make someone else smile. A great idea! But if you are embarrassed by the look of your smile, the day could both motivate you to do good and leave you feeling self-conscious. Fortunately, cosmetic dental treatments can transform the appearance of your teeth and give you plenty of reasons to grin.
Dr. Jason Cellars is passionate about doing good for others - especially his patients! He pursues ongoing education and is particularly interested in the field of esthetic dentistry. Therefore, when you visit Seacliff Dental, you will receive top-notch care performed with the latest technology.

What is World Smile Day?
In 1963, Harvey Ball of Worcester, MA, created the smiley face. This symbol has since become one of the most recognized in the world, appearing on everything from refrigerator magnets to t-shirts. But Ball had created the image as a symbol of goodwill and became concerned by its commercialization. To that end, he created World Smile Day in 1999.
Although the official celebration is held in Worcester, the holiday has received global recognition, especially since the advent of social media. The official motto is, “Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile.” Participants can spread the message by sharing their good deeds on social media with the hashtags #worldsmiledaychallenge or #wsdchallenge.
The Power of a Smile
Perhaps the world has never needed smiles as much as we do now. Although the media keeps us globally connected, it also means that we are constantly barraged by worrisome news and angry debates. But a 2020 study from the University of South Australia suggests that smiling does not only reflect a good mood; it can actually cause your mood to improve.
Cosmetic Dental Treatment Options
Perhaps you are one of the countless Americans who are unhappy with their smiles. While this certainly should not keep you from celebrating World Smile Day with kindness to others, it can take the joy out of smiling yourself.
With cosmetic dental care, Dr. Cellars can give you a smile you are excited to share with the world. The right treatment will depend on your esthetic goals, budget, and dental health. Cosmetic dental treatments include:
-
Teeth whitening: One of the easiest ways to achieve a near-instant improvement.
-
Porcelain veneers: Used to conceal a wide range of concerns, from misshapen teeth to internal staining.
-
Bonding: Similar to veneers but perhaps more suitable if you are on a budget or have sustained enamel erosion.
-
Invisalign®: Can straighten teeth using almost undetectable aligner trays.
